3 Killed, 3 Hospitalized in Head-On Crash in Southwest Miami-Dade

Authorities were investigating a deadly head-on crash in southwest Miami-Dade that killed three people and sent three others to the hospital early Sunday.

The violent wreck happened around 1:45 a.m. in the area of Krome Avenue and Southwest 144th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.


"The impact was so severe that both vehicles caught on fire," FHP spokesman Joe Sanchez said.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Erick Betancourt was driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Krome Aveue when the violent collision happened. In the car were Gisele Betancourt, 15, Julissa Ochoa, 16, and Samuel Domifilo, 24.

The driver and passenger in the other car died on scene. Dental records were used to identify them.

Gisele Betancourt died upon arrival at Kendall Regional. Erick Betancourt, Ochoa and Domifilo were transported with serious injuries, authorities said.

The FHP is still investigating the cause of the crash.
