A young boy was hospitalized in Homestead late Monday with serious head injuries as police investigate how he was injured.
Police were called to a second floor apartment on the 300 block of Southwest 4th Avenue at around 11 p.m. Monday night.
Reports initially came across a police scanner as a 2-year old boy being assaulted. When officers arrived at the apartment they found the toddler injured severely enough to require immediate transportation to a trauma center.
The boy was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital, where he's in critical condition.
The boy's father was put in the back of a police car, without handcuffs, but he was questioned. He was later taken to a nearby police station for further questioning.
Homestead Police called in a Miami-Dade Crime Scene Unit to help them document the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
