Three boys were hospitalized after they suffered severe injuries from a fireworks accident in Pompano Beach Sunday night, city officials said.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. near McNair Park at Northwest 27th Avenue and 9th Court, city spokeswoman Sandra King said in a news release.

When Pompano Beach Fire Rescue firefighters arrived, they found three boys - ages 8, 9 and 11, in the street with severe injuries, King said.

One of the boys lost his hand, another had fingers blown off and one suffered burns to his face and chest, King said.

All three were taken to Broward General Medical Center.

The incident comes just days after a 6-year-old boy was severely injured while playing with fireworks in Fort Lauderdale on July 6.

On July 3, a 25-year-old man partially blew his hand off with a firework at his Fort Lauderdale home.

And on June 28, a man was hospitalized for a fireworks injury in Plantation.
