Authorities say three cats died in a southwest Florida mobile home fire.
Venice Fire Lt. Stephen Worobel says the Monday afternoon fire in the Bay Indies community also left two people without a home.
The Herald-Tribune reports one group of firefighters went inside the double-wide mobile home to search for victims and fight the flames. The second group worked from outside to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes in the mobile home park.
Authorities say the cats died of smoke inhalation.
According to fire officials, interior renovations were underway at the home.
The state fire marshal's office is investigating.
