30-Year-Old Man Shot in the Face in Front of Lauderdale Lakes Club: Authorities

A 30-year-old man who was riding a bicycle was shot in the face at a Lauderdale Lakes strip mall and was in critical condition early Wednesday, authorities said.

The shooting took place in front of the Xtasy nightclub at the Shops of 26th Street near State Road 7 just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The club was not open at the time. Some neighbors said it’s no longer in business.

Authorities said the man, who wasn't identified, may have been riding his bicycle in the area when the shooting happened.

"We believe the victim was on the bicycle and witnesses say they heard gunshots in the area," BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said. "Responding deputies got here within seconds, they were just around the corner, and found the man injured lying on the ground."

The man was rushed to Broward General Medical Center and the BSO said at one point that he had died, but then said that he was in critical condition at the hospital.

The BSO said it is still looking for the person or people responsible. It asks anyone with information on the case to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
