Thieves Who Stole $30K of Seafood Left Tools Behind: Owner

Police are searching for some burglars with a taste for seafood.

The thieves smashed through the wall of a seafood warehouse and got away with thousands of dollars worth of frozen seafood, but not before leaving a few clues behind.

Reynaldo Diaz, owner of Sea Land Distribution, said he got a call from police before he came into his fish warehouse for the work day.

He said he soon found out about the $30,000 worth of fish stolen from his family business; mostly lobster and shrimp were taken.

"When we got here, we saw they had made an enormous hole in the wall," Diaz explained.

The tools used to make that hole were found a day later on the roof of the business. Diaz hopes the sledgehammer and two axes used to commit the crime could help detectives find those responsible.

David Jimenez owns the thrift store next door. He said he knows Diaz and his family well, and what happened is downright wrong.

"Hard working people. They are there every day, trying to make a living like everyone else," Jimenez said.

Other business owners operating from the modest Miami-Dade plaza told NBC 6 the nearby perfume shop was also burglarized recently.

As for Diaz, he said when he saw the damage, the first thing he thought was this was done by professionals; the type of crooks who know what they're doing. He's hoping police catch those responsible.

For him this is about more than just a burglary. He feels like his decades of hard work as an honest businessman have been violated.

Now the family wants justice. Diaz spoke with police on Friday evening, and it turns out, some evidence left behind might help crack the case.

"We were lucky they were able to find some blood. Hopefully they can get DNA and we can find out who did this," said Diaz's wife, Gudelia.
