Find My Shelter: You Can Help 'Clear the Shelters' by Giving a Pet a Loving Home

NBC 6 & Telemundo 51 hold 'Clear the Shelters' pet adoption day on Aug. 15

Thousands of animals in our area are in need of homes. That’s why NBC 6 and Telemundo 51 are partnering with animal shelters throughout South Florida to help find these animals permanent loving homes.

Aug. 15, 2015 is “Clear the Shelters” Day, an initiative by NBC-owned stations to help get cats and dogs waiting for new homes successfully adopted. That Saturday, South Florida's shelters will take part in “#CleartheShelters” Day. They have agreed to waive all adoption fees that day in hopes of attracting even more people interested in rescuing a furry friend. Other shelter fees may apply.

The ultimate goal of the event is to help as many animals as possible find their perfect match!

Surprisingly, only about 20 percent of people adopting a pet choose a shelter animal. No shelter wants to see any animals caged. Finding these pets quality homes is even more critical during the summer after the populations at shelters swell due to abandoned and surrendered pets following spring births.

"Utilizing the power of NBC 6 and Telemundo 51, 'Clear the Shelters' is such an important initiative for all of South Florida’s adoptable animals that are in shelters and rescue groups," said Larry Olevitch, President and General Manager of NBC 6.  "We are proud to take part in this national effort for find loving homes for the pets, while showcasing the importance and value of shelter and rescue adoption."
