4 in Custody After BSO Deputy's Purse Stolen, Standoff at Dania Beach Motel: Police

Four suspects were in custody following a standoff at a Dania Beach motel that began after an off-duty Broward Sheriff's deputy had her purse stolen at a gas station, police said.

The incident began late Wednesday when the deputy was pumping gas at the Shell Station at 14810 Griffin Road, Davie Police said. A car pulled alongside her car and a suspect got out and removed her purse, which contained her BSO credentials, a firearm and other personal belongings, officials said.

Detectives found the car at a Motel 6 on E. Dania Beach Boulevard in Dania Beach a short time later. The suspects refused to leave their room at first and a SWAT team was called in and took them into custody, officials said.

Two adult men and two juveniles were taken into custody. One suspect, who had checked into the motel with his real name, had two active felony warrants for aggravated assault with a firearm, officials said.

Police said they found three firearms in the motel room, including the deputy's gun and a gun that was stolen in Hollywood. Also in the room were numerous credit cards, phones, purses and IDs that didn't belong to the suspects, police said.

Police didn't release the names of the suspects or say what charges they may face.
