Sewer Main Break in Fort Lauderdale Neighborhood, Advisory Issued

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection issued a precautionary advisory to avoid water-related recreational activities in a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood following a sewer main break.

City officials are advising that swimming, fishing, jet-skiing and other water-related activities should be avoided in a section of the New River in the vicinity of the Southwest Seventh Avenue and Fourth Avenue Bridge.

Fort Lauderdale crews were on the scene of the thirty-inch sewer main break located at 600 SW 7th Avenue on Saturday. The leak has been stopped and there have been no interruptions to sewer service, officials say.

Motorists are advised to detour around the area and pedestrians are advised to avoid standing water at the site of the sewer main break.

The precautionary advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
