49ers Quarterback Alex Smith Visits Dolphins

His current team is looking to sign Peyton Manning.

The quarterback quandary for the Miami Dolphins continues to evolve as the latest news out of camp is that current San Francisco 49ers signal-caller Alex Smith visited the team, reported both ESPN and the Miami Herald.

Before having his best year this past season – in which Smith led San Francisco to five comeback wins and within a whisper of the Super Bowl – the first pick in the 2005 draft was considered another cautionary tale in quarterback lore.

Smith’s visit comes just a day after the Dolphins’ latest preferred option at quarterback, Matt Flynn, visited the team.

According to the Herald report, Flynn and the Dolphins are far apart regarding financial considerations in any possible deal.

But Smith might just be using the Dolphins to put the squeeze on his former team which is also considering signing former Miami target Peyton Manning, the report said.

Smith had his best year in 2011, throwing for 17 touchdowns and just five interceptions.
