Six Cuban migrants came ashore Monday morning in South Pointe Park, Miami Beach Police confirm.
Police say the migrants are all men and in good health. They came ashore just before 10:30 a.m.
Octavio Pino, a retired FIU professor, was on the beach when they came in.
"They ran out of the raft and they kissed the ground and one of them kissed the picture of Our Lady of Charity," said Pino.
Pino said the men told him their journey at sea took almost two weeks.
"They were 11 days at sea," he said. " With a little compass like this and you could hold it in your hand."
Pino said he gave the men $20 and they gave him 50 pesos from Cuba.
The men will be taken to Miami Beach Police station before being picked up by Customs and Border Protection officials.
Officials said they came prepared with identification papers and passports.
