6 Million Counterfeit Cigarettes Seized At Miami Warehouse: CBP

About six million counterfeit cigarettes worth more than $1 million were seized during an inspection on a Miami warehouse, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said.

CBP officers working with ICE agents examined the 600 boxes and found multiple trade name protection and trafficking counterfeit goods violations, according to a Wednesday news release.

The estimated manufacturer's suggested retail price for the cigarettes is $1.1 million, officials said.

Counterfeit cigarettes generate significant profits for criminal organizations and pose a public health risk, officials said.

"This seizure is the latest example of the extraordinary vigilance of CBP personnel with federal partners in Florida thwarting illegal trafficking of counterfeit cigarettes," CBP's Dina M. Amato said in a statement.
