FLORIDA TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO TOUT JOB NUMBERS
Florida Gov. Rick Scott is using social media to tout the latest jobless numbers. The Scott administration on Friday plans to use a new twitter account - @ItsWorkingFL - to announce April unemployment figures for the state. The state's jobless rate in March dropped to 7.5 percent. That's the lowest level the rate has been since 2008.
33 MORE CHARGED IN FLORIDA STAGED AUTO ACCIDENT PROBE
Authorities in South Florida say 33 more people have been charged in a three-year crackdown on staged auto accidents used to defraud insurance companies out of millions of dollars. Miami U.S. Attorney Wifredo Ferrer said Thursday those charged included doctors, chiropractic clinic owners and therapists in Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties.
PARENTS OF TODDLER ARRESTED FOR LEAVING HIM IN CAR
Hillsborough County deputies have arrested the parents of a 23-month-old boy left in an SUV for eight hours. A news release says 27-year-old Alexander Rosario and 26-year-old Douceaymee Lopez-Alvarez both face charges of aggravated child neglect.
IN MIAMI, DONNA KARAN SHOWCASES HAITIAN ARTISANS
Fashion designer Donna Karan is visiting Miami's Little Haiti. The Little Haiti Cultural Center is exhibiting art, accessories and furnishings produced by artisans in Haiti. The items are sold through Karan's Urban Zen Foundation. Karan will be talking at the cultural center Friday afternoon about working with Haitian artisans.
ANOTHER PRESCRIBED BURN AT JENSEN BEACH STATE PARK
For the second time in a week, a prescribed burn has been planned at a state park in Jensen Beach for ecological reasons. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Savannas Preserve State Park will conduct the prescribed burn on Friday, burning about 50 acres. Two acres were burned on Wednesday.
MIRAMAR CLICK IT OR TICKET
The Miramar Police Department will be running a “Click It or Ticket” campaign, to coincide with the national campaign, which runs from May 20 – June 2, 2013. Officers will be enforcing belt laws and educating drivers and passengers.
