It’s Thursday, April 25th – and NBC 6 has the top stories you need to know for the day.

Weather wise, the humidity and warm temperatures make a return over the next two days across South Florida before slightly cooler temps arrive in time for the weekend.

No. 1 - The teenager at the center of the video that shows a Broward Sheriff's deputy slamming his head on the ground in front of a crowd of high school students in Tamarac is speaking out for the first time.

Delucca Rolle, his mother Clintina Rolle, and his attorney Ben Crump sat with NBC 6 in an exclusive interview Wednesday to talk about the April 18 encounter with two BSO deputies who have since been suspended.

No. 2 - A Broward Sheriff's deputy seen in body camera footage punching a suspect who was handcuffed to a hospital bed is being accused of excessive force by the public defender's office.

The allegations stem from the January 1 arrest of 27-year-old David Rafferty O'Connell by Deputy Jorge Sobrino on charges of disorderly conduct, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer without violence.

The Broward Public Defender's Office released Sobrino's body cam footage on Wednesday, which shows the deputy with O'Connell at Broward Health North after O'Connell was arrested at a Walmart in Pompano Beach.

No. 3 - For the first time in nearly 30 years, a Florida police officer is set to be sentenced to prison Thursday for an on-duty fatal shooting — and he could be going away for life.

Former Palm Beach Gardens officer Nouman Raja faces a minimum of 25 years and Circuit Judge Joseph Marx could give him a life sentence for the 2015 shooting of Corey Jones, a 31-year-old African-American drummer whose SUV had broken down on an interstate early on a Sunday morning.

No. 4 - Former Vice President Joe Biden, a product of the working class who became a key adviser in the Obama administration following a long career in the Senate, officially entered the Democratic race for president Thursday by declaring "we are in a battle for the soul of this nation."

Biden's entrance comes four years after his son's death led him to decline the opportunity to take on then-candidate Donald Trump.

No. 5 - Miami Beach officials are once again urging the U.S. Coast Guard to assess the safety of Government Cut following the deaths of six people since 2016, including the three people who died over the weekend after a boating crash.

Christopher Colgan, Elisaine Colgan and Jeniffer Munoz Cadavid were killed Sunday after their boat crashed into a hard rock jetty. That was the same area where Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez and two others died after his boat hit the jetty and capsized back in 2016.

No. 6 - Today is the annual Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run in downtown Miami. The event, which is sponsored by NBC 6, kicks off at 6:45 p.m. Several streets will be closed off and traffic will be re-routed before and during the run.
