74-Year-Old Couple Tied Up and Terrorized

Investigators say home invaders could have had the wrong house

Investigators say an elderly man arrived home in The Hammocks only to be confronted by some masked men.

Miami-Dade police are on the lookout for the three men who officers say tied up 74-year-old Antonio Alvarez and his wife, Sarah, ransacked their home and took off with cash and valuables.

It happened on 146th Court and 80th Street around 9:30 Sunday night. Police said Alvarez was just pulling up to his home when the three men approached him wearing dark clothing and masks. Officers say the attackers kept saying "where is the money"? Where is the money?" The victim said he has no clue what money the men were demanding.

“A physical altercation occurred inside the garage at which point one of the subjects produced an electronic control device and utilized it on the victim, and at that point forced him inside the house," said Alvaro Zabaleta with Miami-Dade police.

The attackers woke up the man’s wife and then tied up the couple. Police say they made a mess of the home and took off. They got away with $1000, four antique guns and jewelry.

Officers are working to determine if the men showed up to the wrong house. They're not so sure they meant to go after the elderly couple.
