75-Year-Old Woman Struck in Hit-and-Run Crash

Police are searching for a hit and run driver in Miami Lakes, who struck a 75-year-old woman.

“It’s heartbreaking. It’s sad,” said Evelyn Bruno, a neighbor.

Concerned neighbors were left with unanswered questions after a life threatening hit-and-run crash happened Saturday afternoon in a Miami Lakes community.

“I’ve known her since high school. She was my P.E. teacher at American Senior High,” said Bruno.

Bruno said the woman who was struck at the busy intersection of Bedlington Road and Fairway Drive lives alone.

According to police, there were no witnesses. But some neighbors believe the critically injured woman was crossing the street near her apartment complex and walking towards a shopping plaza on Miami Lakes Drive at the time of the incident.

The victim’s injuries were so severe that rescue crews airlifted her to the Ryder Trauma Center.

Frustrated neighbors say enough is enough.

“Cars just fly by and someone got hit not that long ago and died,” said Bruno.

Miami-Dade Police have very little information. They are unsure of which direction the vehicle took off in. Officials are now reviewing surveillance video to get a vehicle description in order to track down whoever is responsible.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
