9-Year-Old Panhandle Boy Killed in ATV Crash

A 9-year-old Florida Panhandle boy died after being thrown from an all-terrain vehicle.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports the crash happened Sunday afternoon in Bonifay.

Troopers say the child was riding the ATV on Tri County Road around 3:30 p.m. when a group of dogs ran into the road. A 13-year-old girl was ahead of him on a utility terrain vehicle. She stopped when the dogs ran in front of her. The boy turned his vehicle to avoid the UTV. But his vehicle clipped the other one before traveling into a ditch. The boy was thrown from the vehicle.

The child was taken to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The names of the children haven't been released.
