Call it the social network for health-conscious foodies in Miami-Dade and Broward. 

Annie's Organic Buying Club was founded by South Florida mom Annie Malka, and her club now boasts of over 1,000 members with dozens of pick-up locations all over the sunshine state, including Monroe, Miami-Dade, and Broward counties.

Here's how it works:  The members pool their money together to buy organic fruits and vegetables from farms, mostly from California, in bulk at discounted prices. The pre-selected produce is packed in boxes and sent to the 100 pick up locations from Key West to Tallahassee.

The shares range from $20 to $45 a box and they come with recipes. 

"A $45 share is equal to $65 you'd spend in retail," said Angela Compton, a volunteer coordinator in Homestead .

Raisa Carvajal is a new mother and decided to join Annie's Buying Club after having her son. She became concerned for his health and hopes to instill healthy eating habits in his life. 

"I'm a nurse so I know a lot about childhood obesity and diabetes and all that and I was very afraid for my son and concerned about his health<' Carvajal said.

For members, the health benefits are plentiful and the new friendships are an added benefit. Compton says its not just about the food but "sharing in the excitement in food."
