Police Search for Man in Attempted Abduction of 12-Year-Old at Plantation Central Park

The boy got away by hitting the attacker with his tennis racket.

Police are looking for a man they say tried to abduct a 12-year-old in the parking lot of Plantation Central Park Friday afternoon.

The boy was walking west through the parking lot at about 3:20 p.m. when he noticed he was being followed by a dark SUV, according to a release from the Plantation Police Department. The car stopped and a man got out, grabbed the boy on the arm and told him to get inside. The victim hit the man with his tennis racket then was able to run away, police said.

The attacker, whom police described as a man in his mid 30s with dark brown hair gelled to the side, a small mustache and a scar by the right side of his jaw, drove away in the SUV. He was wearing dark glasses, thick black gloves, a black short-sleeved jacket that looked like leather and dark jeans, police said.

A sketch of the suspect was released Friday.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call Detective Philip Towman at 954-797-2118 or 954-445-2942.
