Afghan Trainees Missing From Ga. Air Force Base

Authorities are searching for a pair of Afghan trainees who failed to show up for training on Monday at the Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia.

A Defense Department official tells NBC News that neither of the trainees are believed to pose any kind of threat, and that occasionally individuals do occasionally leave base without authorization.

The two have been in training since February and were screened and vetted more than a year ahead of arriving in the United States, the report indicates.

The military is working with Georgia law enforcement to locate the pair.

According to Air Force and Defense Department officials, the trainees were assigned to the 81st Fighter Squadron and were receiving maintenance instruction at Moody AFB.

The base is located near Valdosta, Georgia, which is roughly 72 miles from Tallahassee and 30 miles from the border with Florida.
