Agency Offers Free Spaying and Neutering

Animal Services said they impound 30,000 pets each year.

Animal Services and the Cat Network teamed up Sunday to provide free spaying and neutering services for animals of Miami-Dade County residents.

The agencies will offer the free spay and neuter surgeries at Commissioner Rebeca Sosa's office at 1000 SW 57th Ave, according to the county. Sosa has been a proponent of controlling the animal population.

“Many cats and dogs of all ages and breeds are euthanized annually or suffer as strays," said Sosa. "Many of these are the result of unwanted, unplanned litters that could have been prevented by spaying or neutering.”

The free spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats began at 8 a.m. Anyone interested is asked to make an appointment by calling 3-1-1.

“The solution to the current overpopulation crisis is to spay and neuter pets," said Alex Muñoz, the director of Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department. "By doing so, pets will live longer and healthier lives."
