Airport Tragedy

Worker dies while loading luggage at MIA

A worker at Miami International Airport fell to his death early this morning when he slipped while helping to put luggage on a plane.

The worker, identified as 43-year-old Thomas Juxovich, was supervising the loading late last night for American Airlines Flight 995 heading to Sao Paolo, Brazil, when he fell off the luggage ramp.

The plane, which was scheduled to take off at 11:30 p.m., had been delayed due to heavy rains. It was later canceled.

"When something like this happens, a tragedy, you can't really be upset at the airline," passenger Fernando Rodriguez said. "We were sitting down there for four hours plus."

American Airlines released a statement, saying they're investigating the accident. The flight was rescheduled to leave today.

"We are deeply affected by the tragic loss of a valued employee. Our investigation will seek to find the cause of the incident and work to prevent anything similar from happening in the future," the release said.
