Alleged Mobster Nabbed by Rothstein Pleads Guilty

Italian Mafioso caught in Ponzi schemer sting in guilty of money laundering conspiracy

The reputed mobster who may have been ratted out by South Florida Ponzi Schemer Scott Rothstein pleaded guilty to money laundering conspiracy charges in a federal court Wednesday.

Roberto Settineri, 41, entered the plea in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom, and now faces up to five years behind bars when he's sentenced on Nov. 3.

Settineri had pleaded not guilty to obstruction of justice and money laundering charges in March, following his arrest in a sweep of alleged Mafia figures by Italian and U.S. authorities.

According to police, Settineri and two other men agreed to help Rothstein destroy evidence and launder $10 million as the former lawyer was out on bond for his $1.2 billion Ponzi scheme.

Rothstein was working with the FBI at the time, and reportedly wore a wire at least 18 times while meeting with Settineri and fellow alleged Mafiosos Daniel Dronerhauser and Enrique Ros.

Rothstein, 48, was sentenced to 50 years behind bars in June for his scam.
