Police are investigating after an alleged Uber driver attempted to pick up a child from a school in Miami Beach.

The incident took place around 3 p.m. on Jan. 6 outside St. Patrick Catholic School at 3700 Garden Avenue.

Police said a white male in his late 30s, driving a black four-door sedan, identified himself as an Uber driver and requested to pick up a male student by name. A teacher became suspicious and tried to snap a photo of the vehicle, but the driver then took off.

School officials informed families they do not allow students to go home with any form of public transportation, including Uber, Lyft or taxicabs, without a written note from a parent.

Police are working to determine whether there was criminal intent.
