Apartment Complex Fire Breaks Out in North Miami

Two dozen people were displaced by a large apartment complex fire in North Miami that broke out early Tuesday morning.

The blaze began shortly before 6:30 a.m. at the complex just off Northeast 11th Avenue and 127th Street. Two units were affected by fire, while four others suffered smoke damage.

So far, there have been no reports of injuries but the owner of the unit where the fire started may be hospitalized as a precaution.

"You could just see just big smoke just all up in the air. Nobody could see anything," said resident Alfred Pierre.

Fiirefighters who arrived to help said items were blocking their way as they tried to put out the flames.

"Clothing, furniture. The personal belongings were located throughout the entire second floor stacked up so that it allowed only access by one person at a time going through," said MDFR Battalion Chief Todd Easley.

The Red Cross will be on sight to help those affected. A total of 24 people were displaced, including five children.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
