SWAT Standoff Ends Following Robbery, Police Chase and Crash in North Lauderdale

An hours-long standoff ended Tuesday following a wild chain of events. At the end of the ordeal, three people were arrested.

The third suspect surrendered to police during a SWAT standoff at a townhome on the 1100 block of Hampton Boulevard. Police believe the man was part of the crime spree earlier in the afternoon.

It all started with an armed robbery at a Cash America Pawn Store in Lauderdale Lakes around 1 p.m. The stolen car used in the robbery was later spotted and a chase ensued. The pursuit ended in a crash at the intersection of Rock Island Road and West McNab Road in North Lauderdale, officials said.

Footage showed several vehicles at the scene with damage. Cellphone video showed Broward Sheriff's deputies with their guns drawn moments after the crash.

Before the collision, sources tell NBC 6 the third suspect bailed during the police chase. He ran into the townhome and refused to come out. The suspect eventually surrendered hours later.

A neighbor told NBC 6 his friend lives in the townhome and that two children were inside at the time of the standoff.

"Never thought something like this would happen over here," said Jada Williams, who lives nearby.

At least five people, who were impacted by the crash, were taken to the hospital, sources told NBC 6.

The identities of the suspects were not yet released by police.
