Armed Robbery at Bar Louie in Miami

Police are investigating an armed robbery at a trendy Miami bar early Wednesday.

The robbery happened at Bar Louie at the Shops at Midtown at 3201 N. Miami Avenue, Miami Police said.

Around 9:30 a.m. an employee opened the restaurant, moments later he was surprised by the gunman, standing inside. He ordered the worker to open the safe, took cash and then took off.

Police and merchants say crime has not been an issue in the area, so news of an armed robbery at the very start of the workday was getting around.

"I saw the police officer but you know, I said maybe something else, construction, something is going on, but they told me it was a serious robbery," neighbor Marcella Vides said.

"There's always security around and everyone does a pretty good job here keeping an eye out so yeah, I'm a little shocked," shop owner Mike Shapiro said.

Police said the robber got away with as much as $3,000. No one was hurt, and investigators are still looking into the robbery.

"Any neighborhood, of course, has crime but it's just shocking that Midtown, because it's growing so rapidly, you know things are happening," Vides said.
