Arrest Made in Death at Pompano Beach Motel

The Broward Sheriff’s Office arrested Jorge Dominguez-Atencio, 42, Wednesday for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend to death at a Pompano Beach motel Tuesday night.

According to the BSO, Dominguez-Atencio and his girlfriend, Jessica Koawlik, 31, had been staying in a room at the Atlantic Inn since the beginning of January. A motel employee told detectives they heard sounds of fighting coming from the room Tuesday night. The employee said it sounded bad enough that he had tried to enter the room with a master key, but someone had locked the deadbolt.

While the employee was trying to enter the room, Dominguez-Atencio opened the door and walked out of the room, according to the BSO. The employee called the BSO and tried to keep the suspect at the location, but Dominguez-Atencio fled into a nearby home, detectives said.

Deputies found Kowalik in the room with stab wounds and she was pronounced dead at the scene by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. The residents of the home Dominguez-Atencio fled to forced him out and locked the door. He was arrested a short time later.
