Police have made an arrest in an early Saturday morning hit-and-run crash in Homestead that sent one woman to the hospital.
Officers charged 28-year-old Jenifer Arroyo with one count of attempted murder causing injury. Arroyo is being held on $7,500 bond.
According to Homestead Police, officers received a call around 3 a.m. from a witness of a woman, 29-year-old Marisol Amaraz, with serious injuries to her legs in the Boardwalk community near NE 6th Avenue and 139th Street.
"She told me that she was hit by a car," said witness Joshua Ortiz. "When I saw her leg had severe laceratiuons, her bone was sticking out. It was pretty gruesome."
Amaraz was airlifted to Jackson South Hospital, but is expected to be okay after undergoing surgery. Her mother did not want to speak on camera, but told NBC 6 that both women have kids by the same man and have argued in the past, but it’s never gone this far.
Arroyo was arrested hours later and booked into jail. Investigators have not said if alcohol was a factor.
