Arrests Made After Drugs, Gun Found During Miami Beach Narcotics Bust

What to Know

  • Officials confiscated three pounds of marijuana and a hand gun, among other items, during the arrest.
  • SWAT units from the city’s police department, along with the ATF and State Attorney’s office, executed a search warrant for two apartments.

A two month drug trafficking investigation led to the arrest of two people in Miami Beach and the confiscation of pounds of marijuana and more.

SWAT units from the city’s police department, along with the ATF and State Attorney’s office, executed a search warrant for two apartments near the 1300 block of Alton Road early Wednesday morning.

Police arrested 35-year-old Phillip Sanders, who they say is a significant supplier of marijuana in the area and had also been known to sell cocaine and other drugs on South Beach.

Investigators say Sanders was also wanted for arrest in Indiana for drug trafficking.

“We’re determined to do everything we can to stop the flow of drugs to Ocean Drive," said Miami Beach Police Chief Dan Oates. "It’s a challenge because of just the nature of that area and the young people come there, some of them choose to engage in reckless behavior but if we can do something like this and take somebody out, this guy is looking at real jail time."

Officials confiscated three pounds of marijuana and a hand gun, among other items, during the arrest – adding the suspect could face federal charges for the weapon.

One other person, Nathan Davis, was also arrested during the drug bust for possession of cocaine and marijuana.

Both men remain behind bars on state and federal charges.
