Arson Suspected in Miami-Dade House Fire

Gas can found in backyard of home that went up in flames

Miami-Dade police are investigating a possible arson case after firefighters put out a blaze early Thursday.

The fire started around 4:30 a.m. at the home in the area of Northwest 30th Ave. and Northwest 45th St.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No one was home at the time and there were no reported injuries.

Officials said a gas can was found in the back yard and they're investigating the fire as a suspected arson.

Shameka Redding, 36, said she was supposed to move into the home Thursday with her mother and her pregnant 16-year-old daughter.

Redding said she had already moved some belongings into the home. Police said she was inside the house, and left in the middle of the night to go buy cigarettes. When she returned, the house was in flames.

"Somebody came and threw gas in the window and set the house on fire," she said. "We were gonna move some stuff in today."
