Attempted Murder Charges For Teen Who Brought Gun to Opa-locka School

The father of an Opa-locka student who allegedly brought a gun to school said his son is “not violent” and that he’s had problems for a long time.

“He have issues that should have been taken care of long ago,” said Everett Bradley, the father of Jalen Leon Bradley, the suspect in Wednesday’s incident. "He's got anger management problems."

Jalen Bradley, 18, has been charged as an adult after allegedly bringing a gun to Jann Man Opportunity School at 16101 Northwest 44th Court. Bradley faces three counts of attempted murder and other charges.

Bradley was arrested after school administrators received a tip that a student had a firearm in a classroom, police said. The school was placed on lockdown after the gun was found and Bradley told officers that another student had a gun, police said. No other gun was found.

According to an arrest report, Bradley admitted he brought the gun to the school to shoot two security monitors, and said he would have shot a third if he tried to take the gun away.

Bradley told officers he stole the gun Sunday from a woman parked at the Winn Dixie at Northwest 54th Street and 12th Avenue, the report said.

During the arrest, Bradley struggled with an officer, police said. He also faces a charge of battery on a police officer.

Bradley is being held without bond, jail records showed. It's unknown if he has an attorney. His father said he'd like for his son to get professional help.

"I'd like to see him get some inpatient learning skills," Bradley said. "Not to let him out of jail now to do whe he do now, because that's not gonna help."
