Authorities Recover Body of Fisherman Who Went Missing on Lake Okeechobee

The body of a fisherman who went missing after a tournament on Lake Okeechobee last week was found near Clewiston on Wednesday morning, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed.

Angler Nik Kayler was found by a commercial vessel near the Clewiston water tower, WPTV reports. Kayler was out competing with co-angler Bill Kisiah for the Costa Fishing League Worldwide last Thursday when the pair went missing.

Kisiah was found alive hanging onto the fishing boat at around 11 p.m. last week, the station reports. The boat was discovered in Pahokee, nearly 50 miles away from the lake. Authorities recovered Kayler’s body Wednesday morning.

Kayler was a war veteran and an Apopka native. A candlelight vigil will be held for Kayler at Scott Driver Park on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
