Aventura Mall Reopens Sunday After Chaotic Scene From Reports of Shots Fired

NBC 6's Andrea Cruz spoke with several shoppers who waited until the last minute - including those shopping at Aventura one day after a chaotic scene with reports of shots being fired Saturday night.

Aventura Mall is open for business Sunday — a day after shoppers fled amid reports of a shooting, prompting police to place the mall under lockdown.

Video surfaced on social media that showed shoppers frantically running from the mall Saturday night. Aventura Police have determined that a shooting did not take place at the mall.

Aventura Mall was evacuated Saturday night following an incident at the mall, that led police to be called to the scene.

"I didn’t hear anything," Niecy Johnson said. "All I saw were people running. People running, people screaming. People trying to get away."

"I can tell you that there were reports of shots in different areas of the mall," Aventura police spokesperson Sgt. Chris Goranitis said.

Aventura Mall was evacutated Saturday night following reports of a shooting, which police said there was no evidence indicating one. NBC 6 Reporter Erika Glover has the story.

Police secured the area and advised everyone to stay out of the area as the investigation continued and the mall remained closed.

"You know you never know," shopper Robert Onofre said. "It could be a shooting or a bomb, but you don’t want to jump go conclusion cause it is a holiday season."

Shoppers were seen running from Aventura Mall after an incident sparked pandemonium.
