The SUV that was taken at gunpoint by a group of brazen police impersonators from an off-duty sheriff's detention deputy has been found, authorities said Monday.
The black Chevrolet Suburban, which was carjacked from Broward Sheriff's Deputy Arthur Reeves Friday morning, was found abandoned at an undisclosed location in Miami-Dade, BSO spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright said.
Some of the deputy's items that were inside the SUV were taken, Coleman-Wright said.
Reeves was pulled over around 4:30 a.m. on the Florida's Turnpike Extension near the University Drive/Northwest 27th Avenue exit by the three suspects who were in a red Volvo with blue and red flashing lights, authorities said.
The suspects stole the SUV and fled the scene. The deputy was left unharmed.
Authorities say the group may be behind at least two other carjackings, including the theft of the Volvo on Park Road in Hollywood last week.
Just hours before Reeves was carjacked, a Dodge Challenger was stolen from a driver on Northwest 12th Avenue in Miami Gardens under similar circumstances, police said.
No arrests have been made in the carjackings. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
