Store Clerk Shot and Killed in North Lauderdale: BSO

An employee at a convenience store was shot and killed in North Lauderdale Friday morning in a robbery gone wrong, Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said.

The clerk was opening the Stop N Go convenience store located at 6121 Bailey Road around 6 a.m. when he was ambushed by multiple suspects, officials said.

He was shot multiple times and tried to run away before he collapsed in front of a school bus.

"The victim attempted to run away from the shooter, he ran out of the parking lot onto the grass where he collapsed and was found by witnesses," said BSO spokesperson Gina Carter.

The man was taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he later died. His name hasn't been released but officials said he's in his 60s.

"The investigation has just begun. We're in the process of talking to witnesses and gathering more evidence," Carter said.

No suspects were in custody early Friday. Deputies are investigating.
