BSO to Hold Prescription “Take Back” Event

The event is on Saturday morning

The Broward Sheriff's Office will hold  a prescription drug "take back" on Saturday.

Alongside with the Coconut Creek Police Department, BSO is hosting Operation Medicine Cabinet as joint effort to help prevent prescription drug abuse.

Participants can anonymously turn in any unused, unwanted or expired prescription medication at the Coconut Creek Community Center on Saturday morning between 9 a.m and 12 p.m

BSO and the United Way Commission on Substance Abuse will be giving out  $5 gift cards to  those who participate.

Also, in an attempt to fight identity theft, BSO and the Office of the Florida Attorney General will help residents dispose of their personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts and any other paperwork that contains sensitive information.

Participants will be allowed to bring up to five boxes of old documents they want to be shredded, free of charge.

The Shred-A-Thon event  began four years ago and has since collected about half a million pounds of shredded documents.
