BYOB at Miami Beach's Only Strip Club

A city attorney calls the move illegal

It’s BYOB at Miami Beach’s only strip club.

Leroy Griffith, the owner of Club Madonna on Washington Avenue, has gotten around the city’s ban on booze and baring all by allowing his customers to bring in their own beer, wine, champagne or other alcoholic beverages, The Miami Herald reports.

“Why pay $500 other places?” asked Griffith, who does charge his South Beach patrons for mixers, cups and ice, the newspaper says. They can also get a hand stamp and buy drinks at nearby bars, which is not new.

Griffith says his new policy is legal in the eyes of his lawyers and the state Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.

But a city attorney argues the opposite.

“Clearly, what he is doing is illegal,” Miami Beach City Attorney Jose Smith told the Herald.

He said Griffith will be fined for breaking city code if a code enforcement officer sees customers entering the club with alcohol.
