The school building has been cleaned and scrubbed and now classes have resumed at Hallandale High School, where a 17-year-old student sparked swine flu fears last week.
Students may not have been too eager to go back to school for the first time since it closed last Friday, when the 17-year-old female student became one of five confirmed swine flu cases in Florida.
Hallandale reopened a day after two Miami schools, Doral Academy Charter Middle School and Doral Academy Senior High, opened their doors after a two-day break to clear out the hallways from suspected swine flu cases.
Also today, the Florida Department of Health added another probable case of swine flu to the list in Miami, bringing the total probable cases in the city to four. It upped the statewide total to 22 probables, from 20.
But the fear of swine flu didn't deter kids from hitting the books at Doral, where principal Francisco Jimenez said attendance yesterday was at about 90 percent.
"Everybody's been very supportive, everybody's been very happy with the amount of information that we've provided to our parents," Jimenez said.
