Bank Robbery Suspect Held Taxi Driver at Knifepoint

A South Florida bank robbery suspect was arrested after he allegedly held a knife to the cabbie he used as a getaway driver in Fort Lauderdale Thursday.

Fort Lauderdale Police said the incident began with a robbery at the PNC bank at 1301 SE 17th Street. The suspect got into a taxi but the confrontation with police happened on A1A in Fort Lauderdale, where NBC 6's cameras were rolling as the suspect held a knife to the driver.

At one point the cab driver took matters into his own hands and wrestled the knife away, throwing it out of the window.

Officers surrounded the taxi with guns drawn and the suspect was taken into custody. His name hasn't been released and it's unknown what charges he'll face.
