A trio of suspected bank robbers led police on a high-speed chase through South Florida Tuesday morning, before ditching their getaway car and scrambling on foot into a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.
Police say the chase began in Delray Beach when the robbers hit a Bank Atlantic at 4700 West Atlantic Ave. The suspects, weilding assault rifles, demanded cash, but a bank employee was able to call 911.
Officers began to pursue the suspects' car, a silver Cadillac sedan, as it raced south down I-95, weaving in and out of traffic and racing down the highway shoulder at high speeds.
At one point, a door on the car appeared to open and what looked like a gun was dropped out.
The car made its way into Miami-Dade, where it got off I-95, and after driving through neighborhoods near Opa Locka, made its way to I-75 North.
When the Cadillac finally exited near Miami Gardens Drive, the suspects jumped out, split up and fled into a nearby neighborhood.
Two of the suspects were quickly arrested, but officers were still searching for the third early Tuesday afternoon. They eventually caught the suspect in a Northwest Miami-Dade home.
