Barricaded Subject Injured in Police-Involved Shooting

A barricaded man was injured in a police-involved shooting Sunday in Northeast Miami-Dade.

Antonio Cardoza, 25, barricaded himself in a home on the 200 block of Northeast 13th Court, according to Miami-Dade Police Det. Alvaro Zabaleta.

Police responded to the scene after family members said Cardoza had been acting irrational and was in possession of a firearm, officials said.

Officers tried to make contact with Cardoza, but when they approached, they heard windows being smashed out and the man threatening to shoot officers if they came any closer, police said.

As negotiators tried to communicate with Cardoza, he confronted one officer and shots were fired, police said. After several hours, officers entered the residence and took Cardoza into custody.

Officers discovered Cardoza was suffering from a gunshot wound when he was arrested, so he was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is listed in stable conditions.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Police urge anyone with information on the incident to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS(8477).
