Baseball Fever Takes Over South Florida as MLB All-Star Week Begins

In less than one week, some of the top players in all of Major League Baseball will take the field at Marlins Park for the 88th annual All-Star Game – but there is plenty of action taking place across South Florida in the days leading up to the Mid-Summer Classic.

Baseball fans can start their week of events this Friday as the MLB All-Star Fan Fest takes over the Miami Beach Convention Center, with interactive games and exhibits as well as appearances from some of the top names in baseball history. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Monday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday with tickets ranging between $15 and $35.

Fitness fans can take part in the Electric Run All-Star 5K on Saturday, starting at 8 p.m. at Bayfront Park, or the All-Star Zumba workout on Sunday starting at 9:30 a.m.

The action enters Marlins Park on Sunday with both the All-Star Futures Game, featuring some of the top minor league talent in baseball, at 4 p.m. followed by the Legends and Celebrity Softball game at 7:30 p.m.

Monday night will be full of long bombs as the annual Home Run Derby takes place starting at 8 p.m. Miami’s own Giancarlo Stanton will look for a back-to-back win in the competition after the Marlins slugger took home the title last summer in San Diego.

On game day, the participating players will arrive at Marlins Park after taking part in the red carpet parade, starting at 12:30 p.m. at Bayfront Park and heading down Biscayne Boulevard before arriving at the stadium – leading up the annual battle between the National League and American League starting at 7:30 p.m.

Both Major League Baseball and the Marlins, in association with All-Star Week, will have various youth programs and events starting Thursday throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.
