Bear Spray Prompts Evacuation at West Palm Beach Hotel

Police are investigating after authorities say bear spray was leaked in a South Florida hotel.

West Palm Beach Fire Rescue reports that the Holiday Inn near Palm Beach International Airport was evacuated Thursday morning following reports of a gas leak. Police say 10 people were initially hospitalized after a cleaning crew noticed a noxious chemical smell.

The Palm Beach Post reports that investigators later determined that a can of bear spray left in a third-floor room had been discharged. Bear spray is a form of pepper spray intended to be used against aggressive bears. It's stronger than pepper sprays intended for self-defense against humans.

Police weren't immediately saying who the bear spray belonged to or if any charges would be filed.
