Boat Burglars Stopped in Key Biscayne

One suspect was in custody and authorities were searching for a second man after the pair burglarized boats at a Key Biscayne marina early Friday.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. at the marina in the 3500 block of Rickenbacker Causeway.

Officials said the men had stolen GPS devices from three boats when they were spotted by a security guard. The guard was able to chase down one suspect after he jumped into Biscayne Bay, but the other fled and also may have jumped into the water, officials said.

"The owner paid the money to get the boat there so we just did our job, that's all," security guard Ovans Isaac said.

The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to assist Miami and Miami-Dade Police in the search for the second suspect.

"I think it's stupid, you know, at the end of the day you risk your life for a couple hundred bucks," boat owner Manny Reyes said. "I mean, where are we today? It's stupid."
