Bobby Bowden Calls Jameis Winston an Embarrassment to FSU

Bobby Bowden referred to former FSU quarterback Jameis Winston as an embarrassment on Tuesday

Legendary coach Bobby Bowden did not mince words when he referred to Jameis Winston as an embarrassment on Tuesday.

Winston made many headlines during his time at Florida State and often not for the right reasons. All of that did not stop the quarterback from being selected #1 overall in the recent NFL draft however.

Bowden is one of the most famous coaches in college history and led FSU from 1976-2009. While at the school, he coached many great players. Those players were not only great on the field but Bowden prided himself on them being examples off the field as well.

When asked for his thoughts on Winston while appearing on ESPN's The Paul Finebaum Show, Bowden responded quickly and clearly. He made his opinion known and did not hold back.

"I think it's a consensus among Florida State fans and boosters that he was an embarrassment in a lot of ways to the university. He won a lot of ball games, probably one of the best football players that ever attended Florida State, but he hurt himself off the field," Bowden said.

Winston will suit up in 2015 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If he can produce at the NFL level and avoid off the field issues, his previous transgressions will likely be forgotten. Occasionally, players find themselves in trouble in college but sort that out at the pro level. This is something Bowden stated as well.

"The good news is he's young enough to get over that. He just can't make those junior high school decisions that he made when he was in college," Bowden added.
