Body of Jet Skier Who Drowned Found

Gideon Obadiah Israel was not wearing a life jacket, authorities said

The body of a jet skier who was believed to have drowned in Miami over the weekend was found Monday morning, officials said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed that 33-year-old Gideon Obadiah Israel went missing Saturday in a lake in the area near 15120 South River Drive.

Witnesses said Israel reached high speeds before losing control and falling into the water. The jet ski surfaced, but not the driver, they said.

Others at the lake tried to locate Israel, but were unable to find him. Israel was not wearing a life jacket, authorities said.

Miami-Dade Police divers responded to the scene Saturday night in an unsuccessful recovery effort.

Israel knew how to swim, Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland said.
