Body Found in Water Was Missing Jet Skier

Body found a day after man went missing in Intracoastal

Authorities have identified a body found floaiting in Intracoastal Waterway Monday morning as the 27-year-old man who went missing while on a jet ski int he same area.

Javier Lopez's body was found around 8 a.m. in the waters just south of the Julia Tuttle Causeway by the U.S. Coast Guard, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

He was wearing a life vest and the jet ski he was riding was found nearby, officials said.

The jet skier had been out in the water Sunday night with friends, but wanted to continue riding for an extra 10 minutes when his friends wanted to go home.

When Lopez didn't come back, the friends called authorities and the Coast Guard began a search late Sunday.

The FWC is investigating if there was a possible collision, FWC spokeswoman Gabriella Ferraro said.
