An investigation has begun after a City of Miami firefighter was found dead inside a fire station early Wednesday morning.
Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignaitus Carroll told reporters that the firefighter was found inside Station 14 located off SW 19th Street and Coral Way around 4:30 a.m.
Carroll said that when just two of the three firefighters stationed inside responded to the truck after a call around that time, they went back inside and discovered the body of their male co-worker unconscious inside.
Carroll said lifesaving efforts were performed, but were not successful.
Officials have not released the identity of the victim until next of kin is notified. The station remains closed during the investigation by Miami Police as crews from nearby stations will work the area.
