Boy, 12, Catches 8-Foot Tiger Shark Off Fort Lauderdale

A 12-year-old central Florida boy hooked a big prize on a fishing trip off of Fort Lauderdale.

Kip Houghton reeled in an 8-foot tiger shark last Thursday as he fished with his family on a charter boat.

The boy told Florida Today it was "the hardest 40 minutes" of his life to reel the shark to the boat.

Mom Wendy Houghton says they hadn't had a bite it quite a while when a large splash broke the lull. She says the charter boat crew told Kip, `you're on kid.' She's says it was a huge deal for the crew and the family.

After taking the shark's measurements, they let it go. The family plans to make a tiger shark replica to hang in their Melbourne Beach home.
